First Bell Pepper From Our Garden

I've been thinking that since I'm not doing any decorating right now, I will expand this blog to include gardening, which is what I have been doing more of.

I grew up gardening, but in the northern US, so living in the southern US has been a whole new learning experience in gardening. Up north we had only a few months in the summer to get our garden in and harvest it. Here in the south it's the opposite. There is a spring garden that has to go in as soon as there is a warm enough day to work outside, then during the summer the heat kills almost everything. except the weeds of course. Toward the end of summer it's time to put in the fall garden, which grows through winter.

I will try to post photos of the gardens as I go to show what I'm learning. I started keeping a gardening diary last year, but haven't been too good at keeping it up. Maybe doing it here will help.

Baby Lizard

Be warned, there will also probably be nature shots interspersed here. The wild things are one of my passions, and I happen to love the slimy scaly kind as much as the feathered and furred kind For comparison, those are sunflower seed shells around this guy, so you can see how small he is.

This critter of course is furry, and he and his mate made it impossible to grow much in the backyard this year, at least not much of anything that was on their menu. Did you know that rabbits will even nibble on tomato plants?

It's almost Fall!

I know I haven't posted here in a while, but during the summer my main focus is on the garden, not the house, so there is no decorating news to report. With colder weather however, I will hopefully have more time to focus on the interior of the house. That's still probably 3 months away at least though, so for now if you want to see how I'm doing you'll have to visit me on Multiply.

A Purpose For Me On This Site

As I've begun to use this site a little more to keep track of my friends here, I've wondered exactly what to post here. The pages I view on here tend to have a theme to them, and are full of wonderful colorful blogs. I wondered what part of my life I could share that I didn't mind being rather public, and it hit me - my decorating. Fixing up this old house is my true heart and soul, and if I would want to share anything with the world, that would be it.

So, if you want to know about my personal life and what's going on in it, you'll have to go to Multiply. If you want to know what silly quiz I've taken lately, you'll have to go to Facebook, but if you want to see where my spirit has been splashed about - this is the place to be. From now on I will do all of my talking about what we've done to the house here. I will post the pictures and videos here too. Now I just need to figure out how to "decorate" my page here.

This photo was taken with my webcam on 5/7/2002. I was still wearing jewelry and makeup and doing my hair. I'm not sure when I stopped doing all that, but really want to get back into it again. I just wish I had the energy. Hopefully as I lose weight I will find that energy.

Flexibility

Changes happen. We all know that but some of us are better at adapting than others. It is said that the older we get, the more resistant to change we are. It is also said that the more stable our life, the easier it is to adapt to a change, but when everything around us is changing, we might hold on tightly to some way of doing things because it is one of the few things not changing and we need the stability.

Since my life is pretty stable, I guess the only reason I'm resisting change is because I'm getting old. I'm quite happy with Multiply and really frustrated that I now have to go to several different websites to see all of my friends. I know I can't expect all of my friends to like Multiply as much as I do, but there it is - I do. Yes, that is stubborn and selfish and I'm sounding like a grumpy old woman. Yikes!

The truth is though that I like a website where it tells me, all in one place on that website, when one of my friends has updated or if I have messages. I don't like having to get messages in my e-mail about my social networking sites. I know how to use favorites and am happy to visit my sites to get updates. My e-mail stays too full already with bills and newsletters and statuses of stuff I've ordered online. Some of the websites my friends are on automatically send me updates, even if I don't tell them to, while others I have to remember to check a little box to get an update. I guess there is so much variety because different people like different things, but all it does is frustrate me.

So what is this all leading to? Please don't be mad if I don't read a comment you post here. I don't turn on the automatic update box when I read blogger blogs, so I have to manually browse each of my friends blogger page to see if anything has been updated. Since I don't remember how many comments each blog had on it the last time I checked, I might miss a comment to me. It is probably best here to send me a message or leave a comment on my page here if you are addressing me, otherwise I'm probably going to miss it.

As can be seen from the growing list of places I like to visit on my page, I have a lot of reasons for coming here, but I think it will only be to visit those pages, not to post blogs myself, unless something happens to Multiply. I'm just way too happy with blogging there to switch for now, and blogging in more than one place just doesn't work for me. I'm not that much of a techie. I like for my blogs to be seen only by who I want them to be seen by, and I don't know how to control that on individual blogs here. So for now, no real blogs here.

So no, this isn't a blog. Right?

Honesty

Why do people have to be fake? I am sure I am probably guilty of it too sometimes myself. We don't mean any harm by it, usually we do it to protect someones feelings. But in the end, it backfires. The person we are trying not to hurt will eventually find out that we have been being less than honest with them, and the friendship will be ruined anyway.

Do we really think we are so much smarter than our friends that we can fool them? Not only are we pretending to be something we are not to them, we are also insulting them with the implication that we are so much more clever than them that we can hide the truth and they will never figure it out.

I know I almost never come here, but another of my friends opened a page here so once again, I visited to add her on my friend list. If I knew more about how to use blogspot I know I would post more here, but it is still a mystery to me, probably because I don't come here enough to feel comfortable with it, and even more probably because I'm quite happy with Multiply.

I'm starting to see a lot of my friends here now, so might start posting here more often. I like Lusy's idea of using different sites for different things, but not sure what I'd use this one for since I use my multiply site for everything I need online.

Also, this site seems to be for more advanced users and I'm not there yet. Right now I'm working on too many other things to have much time for the internet, so maybe this will be filed away for later.

I will try to come read all my friends blogs here though whenever I can. It's a little harder though since there isn't an inbox to show me who's posted what.
